Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault which took place in the early hours of last Saturday morning (March 30, 2014).

An 18-year-old man was left with a fractured eye socket after he was attacked when he left ‘City’ Nightclub on Market Street between 4.15am and 4.45am.

Detective Constable Lynne Baxter, who is leading the investigation, said: “The man was with two friends and as they walked towards the Edinburgh Dungeon, they got into a fight with a group of six or seven men who are believed to be in their mid to late 20’s.

“The man was punched once to the right side of his face, and suffered a fractured eye socket. He was unable to get a description of any of the men who attacked him, or in which direction they ran off.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at that time and either saw the assault, or saw a group of men who were running away from the Market Street area, to contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
