2011_10 Police signs 12

Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery at a shop in the city’s High Street which took place  around 6:40pm last night.

A male and female wearing balaclavas entered the Edinburgh Scarf Co premises and threatened a member of staff at knifepoint before making off on foot with a small quantity of cash and a selection of goods.

They were last seen entering Blackfriars Street in the direction of the Cowgate.

No one was injured during the incident however police are asking members of the public to come forward with information in a bid to trace the perpetrators.

The man had a slim build and was wearing a dark balaclava, a black hooded jacket, black tracksuit bottoms with a light-coloured patch near to his pockets, black trainers, black gloves and carrying a black holdhall.

His female accomplice wore a bright red balaclava and had a medium/chubby build. At the time of the robbery she wore dark tracksuit bottoms with a blue strip down its side, and black trainers with white stripes and a white motif on the heel.

Detective Constable Leigh Inglis said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the member of staff to go through and we’re asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has information which can help with our ongoing investigation, to come forward.”
