Nectarios Triantis has re-joined Hibs on loan from English Championship side Sunderland for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.

The defensive midfielder, who can also play at centre-half spent the latter half of last season at Easter Road, making 14 appearances in all competitions.

Two of those came under David Gray at the end of the campaign, with him playing as a ‘number 6’.

The 21-year-old has been part of Sunderland’s First Team squad this summer and has made appearances in the English Championship and the EFL Cup.

Alongside his club exploits, Triantis has also been capped at Under-23 level for the Socceroos.

He told Hibs TV: “I’m buzzing to be fair.

“It’s a familiar place for me and I feel like it’s the right move for me this season to progress and show myself.

“As soon as I found out I could go out on loan, I thought this was the most fitting move for me. I think it’ll be a really positive year for me and for the Club.

“The fans are great, the stadium is great, the club is great, I’m really happy to be back.”

Before returning, Nectar had numerous conversations with Head Coach David Gray, with the pair discussing the role the Australian could play for the rest of the season.

“I really enjoyed his honesty, in terms of where he sees me, and his vision of me as a player. It aligned with my thoughts and helped me make my decision quickly.

“Having that backing from the manager and him giving the freedom to play in that position is the best thing about it. I think I can flourish in that position this year.

“You could see towards the end of last season, I really excelled when I was playing as a 6. I think I can do that again this season.”

Hibs Head Coach David Gray commented: “I’m delighted to bring Nectar back to the Club. He’s someone I really enjoyed working with last season and he’s another great character to add to the dressing room.

“Nectar is someone I see as a defensive midfielder who has also played a lot at centre-back, which naturally gives him a strong defensive mindset and discipline to dominate the middle of the pitch. I look forward to working with him once again.”

Sporting Director Malky Mackay added: “Nectar is someone we identified early on in the transfer window, and we’ve been working hard to get this deal done.

“After spending six months here last season, Nectar has a full understanding of the Club and knows the standard of the league, which will help him to hit the ground running.

“We felt it important to add another good professional to an evolving group in the dressing room, and we are delighted to welcome him back.”
