Edinburgh Monarchs let slip a 23-19 lead after seven races to go down 48-42 at Workington Comets.
The Scots, who whipped the Cumbrian combine 65-25 on Friday night at Armadale, were then hit by back-to-back 5-1 scorelines in the next two heats.
They were level again at 39-39 after Heat 13 but lost the next race 4-2 and the final heat 5-1.
Former Workington racer Ricky Wells top scored for the visitors with 12 points and Richie Worrall was next best with ten points.
Rasmus Jensen was best for Comets with 12 points while Rene Bach scored 11 points.
