Berwick Bandits powered to a 49-41 victory over Lakeside Hammers in their opening SGB Championship clash.

Captain Kevin Doolan top scored for the Borders side with 13 points and Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen chipped in with nine points.

Bandits only led 35-31 with four heats remaining but kept their cool.
And team manager Scott Courtney said the hard work in the midweek training sessions paid off.

Nick Morris was best for the visitors with 13 points while guest Chris Harris, who rides for Glasgow Tigers, next best on nine points.

Now Bandits staff must get the track ready for the British under-21 final on Tuesday (tapes up 7pm) when 16 top riders go for glory.
