Berwick Bandits co-owner Scott Courtney has praised his men after winning the Border Trophy.

The squad lost 48-42 at Workington Comets on Sunday but took the silverware thanks to their 56-37 win at Berwick on Saturday in the first-leg.

Courtney said it was an excellent performance and the team should be proud.

Berwick still prop up the ten-strong table with 21 points from 32 matches and are seven behind second-bottom Scunthorpe Scorpions who have raced in 30 matches.

Bandits are 13 adrift of eighth-placed Comets who have raced 23 fixtures but Courtney is determined to finish the season strongly.

On Sunday, in-form Austrian ace Dany Gappmaier led the charge at Workington with 11 points and Nick Morris was not far behind with nine points.

David Howe scored seven and skipper Kevin Doolan chipped in with six points.

Jye Ethridge and guest Connor Coles also made contributions with five points and four points respectively.

Courtney added that the last few weeks had been awesome and said: “I wish the season could restart now.”

He believes the Workington match was one they could have won but he conceded that winning silverware was a major boost.
