A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to nine-years in prison following the death of a male in Edinburgh last year.
Kristian Nelson appeared before Edinburgh High Court today having pled guilty to the culpable homicide of Robbie Morrison at a trial in May.
During the same trial a second man, Colin Craig (46), pled guilty to a lesser charge of assaulting the 31-year-old. His sentencing has been deferred until 9 June 2016.
Mr Morrison was stabbed and fatally wounded during a daylight attack in Dumbryden Gardens, Wester Hailes on Friday, August 22. He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh but passed away a short time later.
Nelson and Craig initially denied any involvement in his killing but detectives from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team carried out significant enquiry before arresting and charging the men.
Following the sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Gary Cunningham of the Major Investigation Team said: “Kristian Nelson showed a callous disregard for human life and I hope today’s sentencing will provide the family and friends of Mr Morrison with some sense of closure.
“This was a major investigation that involved extensive police work and I want to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their assistance.”
