The annual Alec Lucas Memorial Football Tournament and Family Fun Day will take place on Saturday 30th May at Whitestone Park, Peebles.

Alec was a Royal Marine Commando who was tragically killed in action in Kajaki, Afghanistan on 24th November 2007 aged just 24.

This year marks the seventh tournament in his name. Last year the event raised an amazing £12,380 which brought the total raised so far to £105,576.

Last year’s beneficiaries included the Royal marines Charitable Trust Fund which provides help and support to families of those killed or maimed in conflict, the now complete Royal Marines Woodland Garden Trust at RM Condor Arbroath where Alec was based with 45 Commando and Horseback UK , a charity set up to empower service personnel and veterans suffering from life changing injuries.

The remainder was distributed between the current various local football teams of Peebles and Innerleithen. Overwhelmingly youth football has benefited the most and over 30 teams have been helped to grow.

The day starts with team registration between 10.00 and 1045 then a minute’s silence in memory of Alec at 11.00am.

The football tournament kicks off immediately thereafter and the family fun day which includes a bouncy castle, giant slide and pony rides opens.

There is also a kids’ disco between 1.00pm and 3.00pm and the final of the football tournament is scheduled for 4.00pm with the trophy and medal presentation at 16.30.

A car boot sale will also take place throughout the day.
