Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman was robbed of her handbag in the Colinton area of the city.
The incident happened around 11.10am today on Lanark Road near to the junction with Spylaw Bank Road.
The 68 year old victim was waiting to catch a bus into town when she was approached by a man who grabbed her handbag, forcing her to fall to the ground.
The suspect then made off and was seen heading along the footpath between Lanark Road and Clovenstone Park.
Enquiries are now ongoing and anyone who can assist in tracing the suspect is asked to come forward.
It is believed there were a number of witnesses in the area and police are particularly keen to hear from a woman who came to the assistance of the victim.
The suspect is described as white, early 20s, between 5ft 10ins and 6ft tall with a medium build, short reddish brown hair, wearing dark trousers and a ‘Varsity’ style waist-length jacket with a navy midsection and white sleeves.
Detective Constable Graeme Templar said: “Fortunately the woman was not seriously injured, but was left very shaken as a result of this attack.
“We have a good description of the suspect and would be keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of the time and who possibly witnessed this robbery.”
