David Gray said that he was “frustrated” after Hibs 3-0 defeat to St Mirren in their opening game of the 2024/25 William Hill Premiership campaign.
And he described the goals conceded in Paisley as “unacceptable” and admitted that the team had fallen below the standards they had set.
After the final whistle, the head coach told Hibs TV: “I’m very frustrated for obvious reasons. The goals we lost are unacceptable, especially the timing of them.
“I thought we were good in the first half and the better side, again, we didn’t take our chances when we were on top.
“To lose the goals we did are unacceptable as a collective group. The third goal hurt the most to be honest.
“The first goal was straight after half-time which is usually due to a lack of concentration and there were three or four things we should’ve done better to stop that. The second was a mistake; a misplaced back pass that got punished. The one after that, we definitely didn’t do enough to stop that.
“If I then look at the chances we missed to get back into the game, we know we need to be better. They had three or four shots and scored three goals. We need to be clinical, especially at this level.
“We fell short of that today, and the goals we conceded were not good enough. We certainly need to be better in both boxes that’s for sure.”
After being appointed as Head Coach, Gray was quick to assert his standards on the playing squad and he made his feelings crystal clear in the dressing room after the game.
“I’ve said many times that when you play for this club there’s an expectation and a demand; that’s the standards we’ve set. In the second half, we fell below that.”
