Sam Masters inspired Staggs Bar Monarchs to a solid win over Berwick but Cameron Heeps also made an excellent contribution to the 52-38 victory.

Masters and Heeps joint top scored with 13 points and Heeps said it was a good all-round team performance.

The Armadale mood was probably the best it’s been all season and Masters wasted no time to make his mark.

Fiercely determined to the first corner, Masters also pulled off a brilliant move to go round tactical sub Aaron Summers in the opening lap of Heat 10.

There was only a two-point gap at Heat 8 and still only six points with three heats remaining, but back-to-back 5-1s ensured Monarchs claimed all three points.

Ricky Wells was smooth and quick all night, while Josh Pickering after a couple of dodgy heats to start with (including a Heat 5 fall) came good in his last two outings.

Newcomer Matt Marson only collected a point but took the opportunity to come out along with Lawson for some post-match practise after his home debut for Monarchs.

Edinburgh (52): Sam Masters 13 (plus 1 bonus), William Lawson 4+0, Josh Pickering 6+1, Ricky Wells 10+1, Cameron Heeps 13+1, Matt Marson 1+1, Connor Coles 5+0

Berwick (38): Aaron Summers 12+0, Jye Etheridge 5+1, Kevin Doolan 7+1, Dani Gappmaier 2+1, Nikolai Busk Jacobsen 6+0, Coty Garcia 6+2, Leon Flint 0+0
