Police have made a number of arrests following a large scale disturbance during a demonstration outside a house in Armadale around 7.52pm last night.

A large number of people gathered in the estate as tempers flared and a car was allegedly set on fire.

A 52-year-old man was arrested in connection with indecent communications and he  is due to appear at Livingston Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Another man, 36, was arrested in connection with the car fire.

Two others were issued with fixed penalty notices in connection with breach of the peace offences,

Officer will be patrolling the area tonight to reassure the public and prevent any further disorder.

Officers continue to investigate the circumstances.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in West Lothian were called to an address in the Armadale area at around 7.25pm on Tuesday following reports of a disturbance.

“Local and specialist officers attended where a demonstration was found to be taking place.

“A 52-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with indecent communications and is scheduled to appear at Livingston Sheriff Court on Thursday.

“Two people were issued with a fixed penalty ticket in connection with a breach of the peace.

“A 36-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with wilful fire-raising and is due to appear at Livingston Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

“We recognise the right to peaceful protest and will ensure lawful protests are policed appropriately. Our priority is to keep people safe and prevent them putting themselves or others in danger.

“Officers will be carrying out further inquiries and high visibility patrols in the area on Wednesday.”
