Captain Kevin Doolan and the squad have been involved in closed door training sessions this week

Berwick Bandits riders have been involved in closed training sessions this week after their defeat to Newcastle Diamonds in the Tyne/Tweed Trophy.

Unhappy team manager Scott Courtney insisted action must be taken to put things right after Saturday night’s 41-49 home reverse.

Courtney and Gary Flint have dissected a tape of last week’s disappointment which came after a spectacular victory over the Glasgow Tigers on the club’s opening night.

Courtney said: “I was bitterly disappointed with our performance on Saturday.

“Closed training sessions to iron out starting problems and early season machinery issues have happened this week.

“We have the facilities to do this and it is of upmost importance to use our resources to the best of our ability.

“General Improvements and identifying exactly why we were not on the ball are high on the agenda.”

Lakeside Hammers visit on Saturday (7pm) in the club’s opening SGB Championship meeting.

Courtney said: “There is no need to panic so early in the season and the riders know exactly what they need to achieve for the club.

“I’m confident we’ll amend our issues. We are a team and I believe in our riders.

“League action begins on Saturday night and we will be back and ready for the fight.”
