What strikes you most about farmers is that they really love their animals.

And when they bring them to the Royal Highland Show they take great care of them before and also while they are there.

We saw hairdryers and hair spray being used on some cattle and also a kind of cattle wash where the animals were being treated to a shower to keep them clean and cool.

This was the first day of the 177th show when they have over 6,000 animals including four days of equestrian excellence. This is also the largest showcase of Scotland’s finest food and drink  with music and shopping. All the food used at the show must have been locally produced and ethically sourced, ensuring that Scottish farmers are supported.

Children under 15 go free and around 30,000 young people will enjoy a dedicated programme of educational activities.

The Royal Highland Show, the best of farming, food and rural life takes place at the Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, Edinburgh from Thursday 22 June to Sunday 25 June.
