Police are appealing for help from the public to establish the circumstances surrounding an incident which occurred in the south of the city.
A 15-year-old girl was walking home along Comiston Spring Avenue and had just reached to entrance to Braidburn Park when a male emerged from the entrance and placed his hand on her arm as the pair passed one another.
After being startled by this, the girl stumbled before picking herself up and running home.
Local officers are now urging anyone who can help with their inquiries to come forward.
The male is described as being around 6ft tall with an athletic build and wearing dark clothing with the hood up.
Detective Constable Mike Brown from Corstorphine CID said: “At this time we are trying to determine exactly what has happened and whether any crime has actually been committed.
“The girl was listening to music at the time of the incident and so didn’t hear if the male required assistance or was in any distress or suffering any injury.
“As such, we would ask the male involved to get in touch and give us an explanation as to the circumstances.
“We would also ask that anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything relevant to this investigation to contact police.”
