Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery at a convenience store in Craigentinny Road last night.

The incident happened around 6 pm when a man in his 20’s approached the assistant at the shop counter, presented a knife and demanded money and cigarettes. He refused and the suspect left the shop.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information that can assist them with their inquiries to get in touch.

The suspect is described as white, of slim build and around 5 ft 4 inches tall. He was wearing a dark blue hooded jacket, dark bottoms tucked into black socks, dark coloured trainers which had a white logo at the top and orange or red soles.

He was carrying a black cotton ‘bag for life’ with a white logo on it. He was last seen running up Loganlea Road.

Detective Constable Kevin Walls said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen this suspect or who has any information that can help us trace him.

“He may have left empty-handed but he did cause the shop workers fear and alarm when they were simply doing their job.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
