Police are investigating a sustained attack on a 40 year old man in Coatfield Lane, Leith, Edinburgh, which is being treated as attempted murder. The incident happened around 2030 hours on Saturday 14th November 2015.  The victim is currently being treated for a number of significant injuries in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where his condition is described as serious.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Maclean of Edinburgh CID said “We are treating this incident as attempted murder and are currently following a positive line of enquiry. It was a violent and sustained assault and included the use of a weapon. Idoes appear that those involved were known to one another and, consequently, I would like to reassure the local community that this has not been a random attack.

There will be an increased police presence in and around Coatfield Lane whilst my team carry out investigations and officers search the area. The victim has been left with multiple and significant injuries and I would urge anyone who has any information that might help us to please come forward, and contact Police Scotland via 101 or, alternativelythrough the registered charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
