Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery from a convenience store in the Bruntsfield area which happened around 8.55pm on Monday at the News 4 U shop in Viewforth.

A 46-year-old woman was working alone within the premises when a man entered and made his way behind the till area.

The male then pushed the shop worker to the ground before making off with four bottles of alcohol worth ÂŁ65.

The victim was not injured and contacted police who are now conducting local inquiries to trace this individual.

Anyone with information that can assist with their investigation is asked to come forward.

The suspect is described as being white, 5ft 9ins tall with a slim build. He was wearing a distinctive multi-coloured scarf round his neck, a dark beanie hat, navy-blue zipped hooded top, tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Detective Constable John McShane said: “While the shop worker was not injured, this was a frightening experience, which resulted in the theft of goods from her store.

“Anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity around the News 4 U shop on Monday evening should contact police immediately.

“In addition, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect and can help identify him is also urged to get in touch.”
