Police are investigating following an assault and robbery at a newsagent’s in South Trinity Road which occurred this morning at around 6.30am.  Two men entered the property when the male shopkeeper was alone in the premises.

The first suspect approached the shopkeeper and assaulted him.

At the same time the second suspect moved towards the till whereby he opened the till and removed cash.  The two men then left the shop and turned left before being lost to sight.

Police are now appealing for information regarding this incident.

The first suspect is described as a man, approx 5’7″, in his early twenties with a local accent.  The second suspect, is a male approx 5’10” in his early twenties.  He also speaks with a local accent, but had a high-pitched voice.  Both were dressed in black and were wearing gloves. They also had their faces covered.

Detective Sergeant Lynsey Thomson said:  “This was a frightening and upsetting attack on a shopkeeper, who has been left shaken as a result of this incident.

“We are eager to trace the two men responsible as quickly as possible.  Anyone who saw this incident, or saw anything suspicious in the general area when it occurred, is asked to contact us immediately.”
