A new market is being launched in Leith by the people behind the successful Stockbridge Market right next door to Custom House. The building is destined to have a bright future following consultation with the public.
It has taken two years of planning, but Leith will soon have its own regular Saturday market at Dock Place, and a formal launch is planned for Saturday 11 July with local celebrity Mary Moriarty opening the ‘doors’.
Based on the concept of the popular Stockbridge and Grassmarket ventures, market manager Beth said: ” The Leith market has already been well received by local groups. It will be the same size as the Stockbridge venture, will consist predominantly of food traders but local arts and crafts will also be on offer. You’ll be able to grab a bite to eat from the superb street food vendors while wandering the stalls to pick up goodies to take home, as well as a wee present or treat for a loved one. Eat, meet , greet or treat – there will be something for everyone.”
This will be the third market to be organised by the same management company:
Beth continued: “It’s a better experience than your supermarket because you can discuss what you’re buying – if its food you can taste it, if its jewellery you can talk to the person who made it. Tables and chairs will be available so you can have a seat and take in the ambience.”
Custom House next door to the market site will also be open on the 11 July so you can have a look inside and add your opinion on the possible uses for this beautiful building now available to the public.
