Police are appealing for information following a robbery on Frederick Street on Wednesday morning(11th March).

The incident happened around 2.10am when the 21 year old victim was walking along Frederick Street towards Queen Street while talking on his mobile phone. He was walking behind a group of around nine people when a man who was part of this group approached the victim,and punched him several times to the head causing him to fall to the ground.

The suspect took the victim’s mobile phone and attempted to take the watch from the wrist of the victim but was disturbed by a passing car and the suspect and group he was with made off.

The suspect is described as black, approximately 20 years old, medium build, 6ft tall, local accent, wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans.

Detective Sergeant Lynsey Thomson said: “This was an unprovoked assault and we are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Frederick Street in the early hours of Wednesday morning, and witnessed this assault or a large group of people in the area at the time. Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101.”
