Alistair Carmichael_

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) held their annual dinner tonight in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. They listened to a speech by the Secretary of State for Scotland, Alistair Carmichael who brought the business owners up to speed on the UK Government plans for them between now and the General Election.

Tickets were £50 for members and £80 for non-members, but in a curious twist (can someone explain this to us please? – the event is sponsored by Edinburgh College – and has been for four years now.

  1. Edinburgh College works with small businesses across the region to secure work placements for our students and to offer our expertise to businesses. This event provides an ideal opportunity to talk to business owners about what they would like the college to offer.

A particularly exciting initiative is the Innovation Voucher scheme, where SMEs can use Edinburgh College’s expertise to carry out research and development into an area of business improvement, funded by the Scottish Funding Council Innovation voucher scheme. Anyone interested in the scheme can contact Donald.Calder@edinburghcollege.ac.uk
