Police in Edinburgh have recovered a quantity of firearms ammunition in the South of the city during intelligence-led enquiries to target serious organised crime in the Capital.

Search activity was undertaken yesterday evening (Saturday) as part of the ongoing investigation into recent firearms and intimidation incidents.

As a result, the items were discovered in the Blackhall area and these have now been sent for further analysis.

Last night, officers carried out high-visibility patrols in the areas where the firearms discharges took place.

Police engaged with members of the public to offer reassurance and seek further information on last week’s offences.

Activity will continue until those responsible have been identified and anyone who can assist officers with their enquiries is asked to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Kenny Gray said: “The recovery of the firearms ammunition on Saturday evening is significant, as it sends a clear message to those involved in serious organised crime that we are continuing with our efforts to shut down their illegal activities.

“Incidents like those witnessed last week remain extremely rare, but can cause significant distress to the local communities when they do occur.

“Police Scotland is committed to bringing those responsible for firearms offences and the intimidation of the public to justice.

“Whenever we receive intelligence relating to serious organised crime we will respond accordingly with all the necessary resources.

“If you have any information about the recent firearms incidents, or any other criminal activity then please contact police immediately.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
