Teenie

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a cat narrowly escaped death after being shot three times with an airgun in West Lothian.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was contacted by the owners of the one year old cat, named Teenie, after she was found wounded on Niddry View in Winchburgh at around 4.30pm on Friday 14 March.

One pellet had entered her left rear leg and a further two pellets were found in her shoulder.

Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said, “Sadly, Teenie’s leg was so badly damaged the vet had no option but to amputate. However, she is incredibly lucky to have survived this sickening attack.

“Teenie’s owners are understandably very upset and keen for us to find the callous person responsible to ensure no more cats come to harm.

“This is an alarming incident which only highlights why the Scottish Government should implement the licensing of airguns as a matter of urgency.

“The new licensing regime should ensure that only those with a lawful reason are allowed to possess such a dangerous weapon. It will also help the police trace anyone using an airgun irresponsibly.

“We are urging local pet owners to be vigilant and appealing to anyone with information to search their conscience and contact our animal helpline on 03000 999 999. All information is treated in strict confidence and can be left anonymously.”
