Operation RAC detectives have arrested another three men for housebreaking offences in the city.
A 21-year-old man was detained during a search of an address in Lady Nairne Crescent on Saturday 25th January and various items of stolen property were recovered inside.
The man was subsequently charged with four break-ins and thefts from properties in Clermiston Road, Kaimes Road and Hayfield earlier this month.
During these offences, three vehicles were stolen, including a Range Rover and Bentley Continental from one of the homes in Clermiston Road.
All vehicles were recovered last week.
Last year, the Riccarton Campus of Heriot Watt reported three separate housebreaking incidents and since then enquiries had been ongoing to identify those responsible.
As a result, a 23-year-old man was detained and will now be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with all of these reports.
In August 2013, a break-in took place at the former Aptuit Scotland Ltd building in Currie during which time a quantity of copper was stolen from inside.
Two months later, security staff at the site disturbed a number of men who had broken into the building. On this occasion, nothing was taken.
Following an investigation by Police Scotland, a 28-year-old man was reported to the Procurator Fiscal for both incidents.
In addition, Operation RAC enquiries resulted in the recovery of a Volkswagen Golf on Saturday 25th January following a housebreaking at Silverknowes Gardens earlier that day.
The vehicle is valued at around £4,000 and officers are continuing with their investigation to identify those responsible for its theft.
Detective Inspector John Kavanagh, who is leading on Operation RAC activities in Edinburgh, said: “As these arrests demonstrate, Police Scotland continues to investigate all reports of housebreaking, both domestic and commercial, regardless of how much time has passed.
“Our dedicated RAC resources are detecting more and more offenders each day and reuniting victims of housebreaking with their stolen possessions.
“Anyone involved in acquisitive crime should be left in no doubt that we thoroughly investigate all reports of these crimes and will work alongside our partner agencies to ensure you are removed from our communities.
“Members of the public can assist police in tackling housebreaking by ensuring their homes, businesses and outbuildings are appropriately secured at all times.
“Anyone wishing more advice on crime prevention can contact their local policing team.”
