Firefighters are currently dealing with a large house fire in Hutchison Terrace near to the junction with Slateford Road in the west of the city.
Five appliances are in attendance along with three police vehicles and two ambulances.
The firefighters are attempting to put out the fire using a hose and water from an extended ladder and will then check to ensure that there is no further spread.
There are no reports of casualties, but a police officer at the scene anticipates that the incident will be ongoing for some time.
The three story houses are opposite the 24 hour Chesser Asda.
Vehicles are being allowed to turn from Slateford Road into Chesser Avenue, but southbound cars are being diverted eastwards along Hutchison Road or westwards along New Mart Road.
A statement from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is anticipated shortly.
