In 1985 Euan started his own photography business working with Edinburghs top design agencies and Scottish Brewers. This lead to freelance work including the Scotsman magazine, Scotland on Sunday and other broadsheets throughout the UK. In 1989 Euan returned to Education as a Lecturer in Photography and Audio Visual studies.
He is now retired, over this time period Euan has been a trade union member holding several posts, shop steward, health and safety rep, branch chairman, Edinburgh Trades Council rep, STUC rep. Since the age of nine Euan has been a staunch supporter of Scottish Independence, encouraged by his Uncle before it was fashionable to support Independence.
He was previously a member of the Labour party but found his ambitions for Independence were not shared by the officials in that party. He is a founder member of the Alba party and is passionate about representing Leith as he has strong family ties to the area over three generations.
As a father and grandfather Euan is very concerned for women and girls safe spaces which are being eroded by the GRA.
Euan said: “I am a lifelong supporter of Independence and the Trade Union movement and a committed Socialist. It has been 102 years since Leith was amalgamated into Edinburgh against the wishes and voters of Leith. It is time the City Chambers listened to Leithers, for twelve years Leith has had to endure tram works, ruining many Leith businesses and inconveniencing residents with particular effect on elderly and disabled. I support and am standing for the people of Leith, I not only believe in Independence for Scotland but Independence for Leith. I wish to halt the deindustrialisation of Leith and improve our Port facilities. Leith needs innovation in social and affordable homes not Hotels or student accommodation.
“It’s time to stamp out poverty in Leith and help those less fortunate, this only happens with well paid jobs and affordable homes to help people out of poverty. The current business plans in Leith only provide poorly paid service jobs a far cry from the industrial town that Leith as once was. The support for our elderly and less able bodied citizens is truly awful, bus services have been dreadful during tram works with no thought given to those that cannot walk far distances to bus services. Current council policies totally ignore this group and are focused on young fit people. Other services have also been ignored, rubbish removal being a particular issue, Policing and public safety have also slipped, Leith Links has almost become a no go area for women after dark with little being done to address these issues. I ask you for your vote on the 5th of May to put Leith back into the hands of Leithers.”
