Championship Shield: Berwick Bandits 54, Edinburgh Monarchs 36
Austrian ace Dany Gappmaier (pictured) inspired Berwick Bandits to a comfortable victory over arch rivals Edinburgh Monarchs who now bow out of the Championship Shield.
He powered to 14 points from six races, winning four of them, as under-strength Bandits bounced back from an 8-4 deficit after two heats.
Five 5-1 wins in six heats provided the springboard for the Berwick side who are the early leaders of the Borders section.
And veteran Australian Kevin Doolan backed him up claiming 12 points in 54-36 win.
Skipper Ricky Wells was best for the visitors with 11 points with Cameron Heeps next best on eight points.
