Edinburgh Monarchs have confirmed that 23-year-old Cameron Heeps will join fellow Australian riders Justin Sedgmen and Josh Pickering in their team for the 2019 season.
Heeps has mainly been associated mainly with Ipswich, but Witches have opted to move up to the SGB Premiership for next season,
Monarchs quickly opened talks with a rider they have often thought would fit into the Armadale squad.
Heeps agreed to come despite living in Suffolk and that means he’ll have to make a 16-hour round trip for home matches.
The rider said “I enjoy coming to Edinburgh it’s a good track, and having the track as a home track I am hoping to make the long journeys worthwhile.
“An eight-hour trip is not the end of the world. Being in Aussie we had sometimes to make trips up to 30 hours so I can deal with eight hours (one way).”
He added that he needs to be more consistent and Heeps revealed that he has spoken to Monarchs promotion about coming to Armdale.
“Things haven’t worked out. Obviously they have this year and I’m looking forward to it. I know Josh Pickering and Justin Sedgmen and I’ve worked with Sedgy (Sedgmen) at Ipswich a year or two ago. I’ve met Josh and he seems a really nice lad.”
Heeps believes he will have competitive machinery for next season and he added: “I’ll be using some of last year’s machinery but I’ve got a couple of sponsors who will help me make some changes. If everything works out it will be good for next year.”
