Eight people have been charged with drug offences following proactive enforcement activity by police in Edinburgh.

Officers from the Central Initiative Team, based at West End Police Station carried out intelligence-led searches of two homes in Earl Grey Street and Calton Road on Tuesday 23rd October.

Within Earl Grey Street, officers recovered quantities of heroin and cocaine along with £200 in cash.

A 35-year-old woman was arrested at the address.

During the search of the Calton Road property, Four men and three women were subject to personal searches, where more heroin, cocaine and crack cockaine were found.

Police also seized cocaine and cannabis from the flat.

In total cocaine worth almost £5,500 was recovered along with over £500 of heroin, £100 of cannabis and over £3,000 in cash.

The men aged 32, 57, 35 and 27 were due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today along with the women aged 35, 46, 27 and 27.

Inspector Bob Innes from the West End Police Station said: “The enforcement activity on Tuesday was the culmination of several months of intelligence gathering and resulted in various harmful substances being seized and numerous arrests being made.
