Thirteen people have received treatment for minor illness, and three of those people have been taken to hospital for further observation following a suspected chemical incident at a Scottish Gas building on Waterfront Avenue yesterday afternoon.
Numerous emergency service vehicles attended the incident around 5.15pm.
Police have asked the public to avoid the area while the emergency response is ongoing, and Waterfront Broadway, Waterfront Avenue and Caroline Park Avenue are currently closed.
Officers have yet to establish the exact cause but said that it may be chemical related.
Lothian buses 47, X47, 24, 38 and 113 are affected
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “”We received a report of a possible chemical incident within a Scottish Gas building in Waterfront Avenue, Edinburgh.
“This happened around 5.15pm on Friday 21 September.
“We are working alongside our partners in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of this incident.
“Thirteen people have received treatment at the scene for minor illness. Three of these people have been taken to hospital for further observation.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said that fire crews were called to the scene at 5.14pm to assist their emergency partners.
