Mark Riss, a confident Monarchs racer

The Staggs Bar Monarchs face a difficult Knockout Cup tie duoble-header, racing arch-rivals Glasgow at Armadale on Friday (7.30pm) and at Ashfield (3pm) on Sunday.

New signing Coty Garcia will take his place in the Monarchs’ line-up which has made an inconsistent start to the season, not helped by the stop-start nature of the fixtures.

Heat leader Mark Riss fancies his team’s chances providing if everyone can be on their best form.

He said: “At the moment everyone has some bad meetings and some good meetings.
“I think we can win this tie. I think everyone is doing quite well at home. Of course, Glasgow are good at home as well so Sunday won’t be that easy.

“Me and Erik were at Ashfield last Sunday and they seemed to have more dirt on the track. It looked quite grippy.”

Team manager Alex Harkess said: “We’ve got the first-leg so it is important that we take an advantage.

“We haven’t done that against Glasgow up to now this season, but it’s time to turn the tide.

“They are having an up and down season, not that different from ourselves and they’ve already had a huge home defeat, but we know what they are capable of.”

STAGGS BAR MONARCHS: Ricky Wells, Joel Andersson, Mark Riss, Max Ruml, Erik Riss (capt), Coty Garcia, Josh Pickering.

ALLIED VEHICLES TIGERS: Chris Harris (capt.), Lewis Kerr, Claus Vissing, Paul Starke, Richie Worrall, Jack Thomas, James Sarjeant.

There will be a collection for the injured former rider Mitchell Davey during our Friday’s meeting.

The cup match will be followed by a junior fixture between the Dale Devils and the Ashfield Giants.
