Erik Riss will captain Edinburgh Monarchs this season it has been confirmed.

The German said he is looking forward to leading the team in the SGB Championship and he acknowleged that it will be a different to what he is used to.

Riss told fans at the pre-season show in Bathgate that it is not just about looking after himself now.

And he vowed to be more involved with the other members of the team.

He added: “It doesn’t worry me and I can’t wait to get started.”

The sell-out show heard Joel Andersson and Max Ruml sounding confident ahead of their debut seasons in British speedway and the rest of the squad is raring to go.

The club also confirmed that The Dale Devils are back and are entered in the Northern Junior league.

Meanwhile, Ricky Wells is the club’s No 1 with Max Ryml at No 2.
Erik’s brother Mark is No 3 with Joel Anderson at No 4, captain Riss at No 5, Matt Williamson at No 6 and Josh Pickering the No 7.
