Hibs’ defender Darren McGregor insists that he is in no hurry to hand back the Scottish Cup after the club waited 114 years to get their hands on the trophy.

Hibs travel to the national stadium this afternoon with the knowledge that they will be back in the top flight next season and McGregor believes that he and his team mates have the capability to overcome highflying Aberdeen to reach a second successive Scottish Cup Final.

He does accept that Aberdeen will be favourites but he believes that Hibs have the quality of player to cause them problems.

McGregor told Hibernian TV: “We have waited 114 years to get out hands on the Scottish Cup and we are definitely in no hurry to hand it back. Aberdeen will be a tough test but one that we can win.

“We have been given the tag of ‘underdogs’ which is probably right that they are favourites because they are in the league above us and have shown consistency all season but it’s definitely not as cut and dried as a lot of people are saying.

“Our mandate at the start of the year was to get promoted and we have done that so anything else is a bonus.

“As a player you want to compete against the best in Scotland and the Aberdeen players fall into that category but we have the players that can negate their strengths and have numerous guys that can cause them problems.

“The past few weeks we have been dragging our heels and there was a real apprehension. It was going to happen, we were going to win the league and to win it the week before the semi-final couldn’t have happened any better.

“I think that if we had won it two or three weeks ago there might have been a dip in our performance but to win it last week means the timing couldn’t have been any better.

“To score three goals and keep a clean sheet against Queen of the South bodes well and we go into the semi-final with confidence.”
