Hibs’ captain David Gray visited Roslin Primary School, on the Persevered Scottish Cup Trophy Tour yesterday.
The former Manchester United full back had no difficulty finding his way around the building, having attended the school as a youngster.
He was joined by Paralympic silver medallist and Hibs’ fan, Scott Quin and the pair took time to display the Scottish Cup and chat with pupils.
Gray earned legendary status amongst Hibs fans by not only captaining the club to their first Scottish Cup victory in 114 years, but also for scoring the winning goal in time added on, sparking wild celebrations amongst the supporters.
Speaking to Hibs TV, David said: “It’s a bit surreal coming back to be honest. Everything seems a lot smaller. I remember coming and thinking that it was a big school, but it’s just a wee school.
“It’s been great coming back and it’s been nice to see some teachers that are still there from when I was here. It’s just a nice experience.”
Scott said that it was a big honour for him to have been invited to take part in the tour, and cited the victory over Rangers on 21 May as being a positive inspiration for him as he headed to Rio to compete in the 2016 games for Team GB – watching the goals whenever he felt nervous, using the win as motivation.
Scott said: “To be part of the Persevered Scottish cup Trophy Tour is unbelievable, it’s a great honour.
“I’ve witnessed Hibs in the past have unsuccessful moments and other successes, so to be part of this – I’m quite humbled by it.
“I was so inspired by the cup win, just sitting in my apartment in Rio and with nerves getting to me, I’d just watch footage of that moment when that dream came true for Hibs, and being a Hibs fan, I just used it as good psychology.”
