Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault and attempted robbery which took place around 8.10 a.m. yesterday at a path at the Water of Leith.
A 21-year-old man was jogging west between Gorgie Road and the allotments at the rear of Saughton Mill Carpets at Stenhouse Mill Lane when he was struck to the head and fell to the ground.
At this time a male attempted to steal the man’s phone. However, the victim refused to let go of the item and the suspect ran off towards Stenhouse Mill Lane and Gorgie Road.
Local officers are now conducting various lines of inquiry to trace this individual and anyone who can assist officers with their investigation is asked to come forward.
The suspect is described as white, between 17 and 20-years-old, around 5ft 10ins to 6ft tall with an average to stocky build, short dark hair and a clean-shaven face. He was wearing a dark hooded jumper with a large pocket at the front, dark-coloured tracksuit trousers with a single white stripe down the legs and white trainers.
Detective Sergeant Robbie Wallace from Corstorphine Police Station said: “The victim suffered a painful cut to his head, which required treatment at hospital. Though, thankfully, he wasn’t seriously injured.
“We are actively looking to trace the suspect and anyone who recognises his description is urged to contact police immediately.
“I would also request that anyone who saw anything suspicious on the Water of Leith footpath between Gorgie Road and Stenhouse Mill Lane on Monday morning to get in touch.”
