Police  are appealing for witnesses following an assault and robbery in the Muirhouse area which took place  around 8.45pm on Saturday  in Muirhouse Grove.

A group of around 10 youths were attempting to steal a red Lexmoto Scooter when the 24-year-old owner challenged them.

He recovered the scooter, worth a four-figure sum, from the group who then attacked him.

The owner managed to get away, and the group then made off with his scooter.

He received minor injuries to his face and body, and did not receive medical attention.

The scooter was recovered a short time later in Muirhouse Drive, with damage to it’s front.

The youths are believed to be aged 15-16, and were described as wearing grey cotton tracksuits with their faces covered.

Detective Inspector John Kavanagh of Corstorphine CID said: “This was a cowardly attack on a man who was just trying to protect his property.

“Behaviour like this is completely unacceptable and we will use all resources at our disposal to pursue the offenders.

“I’d ask anyone who saw the group described in the area around this time, or has any information which can assist with our enquiries, to get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
