A man, woman and nine-year-old girl have died following a crash between a van and a car on the M9 between Polmont and Linlithgow at 9pm last night.
Three other people remain in hospital following the collision.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said today: “Police Scotland can confirm that a third person has died following a serious road traffic collision on the M9 on Friday 29 January.
“Sadly a nine-year-old girl has passed away.
“A 37-year-old woman and 42-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene on Friday night.
“A further two people remain in a critical condition in the Forth Valley Royal Hospital and another who was transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow is described as serious.
“The incident happened on the southbound carriageway between junction three and four around 9pm on Friday 29 January.”
The incident involved a silver Mercedes car and a white Vauxhall van.
