Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault within a city-centre pub which happened around 10.15pm yesterday at the Three Sisters on the Cowgate.
A 23-year-old man was with a group of friends in the bar when they became involved in a verbal altercation with a number of men at a neighbouring table.
During this time a glass was thrown, which struck the victim to the side of the head. He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment to injuries to his head and ear.
The suspects all left before police arrived and officers are now urging anyone who can help identify them to come forward.
Detective Constable Iain Wallace said: “Both groups had been singing football songs and this escalated resulting in a glass being thrown at the victim causing him injury”
“At the moment we have no description of the suspects, so we are therefore keen to hear from any other patrons who were within the Three Sisters pub on Wednesday evening and who can help us trace these individuals”
“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this inquiry is also asked to contact police immediately”
Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
