A serial thief who carried out a string of assault and robberies as well as housebreakings has been jailed for three years.
Grant Hunter (23) appeared from custody for sentencing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Thursday.
He had earlier admitted to carrying out assault and robberies and domestic housebreakings between October and December 2014 in the North of Edinburgh and Leith.
The offences were committed as the occupiers slept upstairs. On one occasion the occupiers woke to see Hunter fleeing from their home with items of their property.
He was later identified through CCTV enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Houston said: “Grant Hunter targeted innocent members of the public and broke into homes while the occupiers were asleep upstairs. These were distressing incidents for the owners over and above the loss of their property.
“This sentence sends a clear message that we will not tolerate this behaviour in our communities, and those responsible will be traced and brought before the courts.”
