Police in Edinburgh are issuing safety advice to warn of the danger of driving motorcycles off road and without helmets, following a number of reports in the south of the city over the last couple of months.

Inspector Euan Smith, based at Howdenhall Police Station, said: “Driving off road and without helmets is not only dangerous for those on the bike, who may be inexperienced in handling a high powered motorbike, and don’t have the relevant training, but also puts members of the public in harms way.

“Police Scotland continues to place a strong focus on motorcycle crime across the city, and we are taking action whenever we receive a report of a crime. We are committed to tackling this dangerous activity but we need the community to come forward and give us this information.

We are appealing for members of the public to phone in with the name of those responsible via 101 or Crimestoppers
