Police are appealing for witnesses following a housebreaking in the Drum Brae area of the city.

Enquiries are underway after four men broke into the garage of a property in Drum Brae at around 2.15am on Wednesday 25th June and attempted to steal two motorbikes.

The man who lives in the house was attacked and sustained a broken arm after hearing noise and disturbing the thieves.

The group of men, who are all believed to be in their late teens and early twenties, managed to grab some tools from the garage before fleeing along Caroline Terrace towards Corstorphine Hill cemetery.

Detective Inspector John Kavanagh, who is based at the nearby Corstorphine Police Station, said: “This was a terrifying experience for the property owners, who have been woken by criminals breaking into their garage.

“The suspects failed in their attempts to steal a couple of motorcycles, but they escaped with some tools and injured a man to the extent that he was treated at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for a fractured elbow.

“We would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Drum Brae area of Edinburgh in the early hours of Wednesday morning or who has any information which may help with Police Scotland’s investigation to get in touch immediately.”

One of the suspects is described as white, in his late teens, around 5ft 11in, of slim build and with short, dark hair. He was wearing a light grey tracksuit top, dark jogging bottoms and had a scarf over his face.

No detailed descriptions have been provided for the other three men but it is understood that all of the suspects were wearing hooded tops and tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone with information on this incident can contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
