Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault that happened on Newington Road just before 7pm on Tuesday 25th February.

The victim was on the east footpath walking towards town and stopped at the bus stop near to 13 Newington Road when he was approached by the suspect who, following an argument punched him and bit down on his ear.

A member of the public intervened and the suspect headed north and is thought have turned onto East Preston Street.

The suspect is described as white, early 30s, stocky build, 5ft 10in, clean shaven, short black hair with a bit of length on top, Edinburgh accent, wearing a dark blue sleeveless body warmer with a long sleeve light green top underneath.

Detective Constable Kevin Tait said: “We are keen to trace any witnesses to this serious assault, particularly the passer-by who intervened.

“If anyone was in the area at the time or recognises the description of the suspect then they are asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.”
