Four people have been arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act after police in Edinburgh recovered large quantities of drugs during two searches in the Capital.
Officers found around 22,500 diazepam tablets within a flat in Murrayburn Gardens on Saturday 5th October and a man aged 42 was charged along with a 41-year-old woman for alleged drug offences.
Both have since appeared in court and the man has been remanded in custody. Over £2,500 in cash was also recovered from the address.
Further enquiry was carried out and a search of a property in Broughton Road was undertaken yesterday (Thursday).
Around 40,000 more diazepam pills were seized from inside and the occupants were arrested and charged.
A 42-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman are scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.
The total value of the recovered diazepam is around £62, 500.
Inspector Stevie Dolan said: “Diazepam is a prescribed drug, which should not be taken by anyone other than those required to consume it for health reasons.
“Recovering these pills means we have ensured that they can’t make their way into our communities and be used for reasons other than their prescribed purpose.
“Police Scotland is committed to tackling drug crime and would urge the public to come forward immediately if they wish to report offences of this nature in their local area.”
