Emergency services were called to an Edinburgh harbour on Friday 27 December after an unexploded ordnance device was found. 

The discovery was made around 10.30pm in the Firth of Forth near to the Western Harbour. 

The device was found after a boat was dredging the water. The vessel was evacuated as a precaution. 

The area was cordoned off to allow for a controlled explosion. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.30pm on Friday, December 27, 2024 we received a report that an unexploded ordnance device had been discovered in the Firth of Forth near to Western Harbour. 

“The device was discovered after a boat was dredging the water. The boat was evacuated as a precaution. 

“HM Coastguard and EOD were contacted. 

“An exclusion zone was put in place to allow for a controlled explosion.”
