An Edinburgh street has been closed after a ‘potential item of ordnance’ was discovered in a garden of a house under renovation.

Comely Bank Road has been closed between Fettes Avenue and East Fettes Avenue.

Emergency services attended the incident around 3.15pm this afternoon. Officers are now urging people to stay away from the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a potential item of ordnance at Comely Bank Road in Edinburgh around 3.15pm on Tuesday, July 2.

Road closures are in place as a precaution and we would urge people to avoid the area while emergency services work in the area.”

Lothian Bus services 24 and 29 have been affected by the road closure and are unable to serve Comely Bank Road.

They are instead being diverted via East Fettes Ave and Carrington Road in both directions until further notice.
