Following its winter tie-up with Scottish Curling Team Mouat, Magnum, the country’s only Scotch Malt whisky liqueur, has swept into action once more to launch two new outdoor summer terraces at Cold Town House in the Grassmarket.

Situated on the outdoor terrace, with its quirky seating in cable car bubbles, chair lift seats or bench seating with a central faux fire, you’re greeted with views of the castle.

With the weather set to be good today and Monday, why not head down to this iconic venue, lap up the sun, and catch up with friends over some hearty food including one of their famous hand-stretched Cold Town Stone Baked Neapolitan Pizza and their Magnum cocktails or one of their grazing plates such as Buffalo Chicken Loaded Fries or Burgers or Dogs.

With Wimbledon due to start on 1 July, their homage to this event is the Strawberries N’ Cream, made with Magnum, Bacardi Spiced, Creme de Fraise, milk and vanilla syrup. This would probably work better as a dessert-type cocktail but as we were served up all three cocktails to try at once, we started with this, as I was aware that this nitrogen-infused cocktail with its thick cream layer on top, would quickly disintegrate into the drink layer beneath. I was right – and it didn’t make for an aesthetically pleasing look! Perhaps a spoon to eat the cream layer might help as you end up with a creamy moustache in your attempts to drink the layer beneath.

More appealing to me was the Banana Colada, their take on a Pina Colada, served in a ‘pineapple-styled’ handled glass. Made from Magnum, Malibu, banana liqueur, pineapple juice, coconut milk, and coconut syrup, this had the taste of the Tropics.

Last but not least was the Choc N’ Chip, a combo cocktail of Magnum, Mozart Dark Chocolate, Creme de Menthe, milk and vanilla syrup. If you were a fan of Mint Choc Ice Cream as a child, this could work for you. But I’ve never got the flavour combo, which to me is like cleaning your teeth and then sucking on some chocolate. Just wrong.

As it was a school night, we stopped at three cocktails but if you’re up for a party night, there’s also a range of Magnum Shooter Boards to whet your appetite. Choose from Magnum Baby Guinness; Banana Split; Peaches N’ Cream; Strawberry Shortcake; and Chocolate Mudslide.
