Berwick Jewson Bandits bosses anxiously await the result of a fitness test on No 1 rider Lewis Kerr before they finalise their team for this weekend.
Kerr (pictured by Taz McDougall) has been sidelined since fracturing his ankle during Oxford Spires’ Premiership defeat at the hands of Ipswich on April 11.
He had the cast taken off the ankle ten days ago and has been undergoing oxygen chamber treatment in addition to physiotherapy, running and gym work in an effort to return to action.
If the test is successful then Kerr will return to the Berwick side which defends an 18-point lead in its Cab Direct Knockout Cup, quarter-final, at Scunthorpe on Friday night and Saturday’s Cab Direct Championship match against Plymouth Gladiators at Shielfield Park.
Berwick have guests on stand-by should Kerr suffer a reaction to the injury.
Saturday’s visitors to Shielfield Park, Plymouth have also yet to finalise their seven. Their dispensation to cover Nico Covatti – injured in an Argentinean track crash days after his signing was announced by the Gladiators – ran out this week.
As a result they can only replace him with a guest up to 75% of his average (7.82) leaving them with 5.685 to play with.
