Lindsay Bell won round three of the Edinburgh New Year Shore Angling League at the Joppa end of Portobello Beach, but it was tough going for the 20 anglers.

Dab catches dominated but fish were hard to find in a flat sea with a strong offshore wind which made things uncomfortable.

Bell had five fish for 116 points and Barry McEwan from Port Seton was second with four fish for 102 points with Stevie Souter (Edinburgh) third also with four fish but for 100 points.

McEwan also had the longest fish of 24cm in the event sponsored by The Edinburgh Angling Centre, The Fishing Megastore and Cox and Rawle.

Meanwhile, Cammy Cunningham from East Lothian has been knocked out of top position in the winter heaviest cod league organised by Mike and Chris Horn.

David Cargill from Dundee landed a fish of 8lb 6oz to take over and lead the race for the pot which stands at £380. There is one leg to go on February 10 where fishing is from 15.30 to 20.30.

Elsewhere, match one of the Scottish Federation of Sea Anglers series is at Newhaven in Edinburgh on Saturday, January 27 from 16.00 to 20.00. Registration is from 14.00 to 14.30 at Western Harbour Place EH6 6NG and only members can enter. No undersized fish and three hooks. The match is pegged.
