Vulnerable people living in food poverty in the Scottish capital will be dished up nutritious ingredients after an Edinburgh foodbank received £7,238 from Aberdeen Standard Investments Charitable Foundation to provide basic foodstuffs and fresh fruit and meat.
The ingredients for making wholesome meals will be served up to people with an identified need living in Edinburgh through the charity World Care Foundation.
The organisation operates a foodbank to relieve those in food poverty due to unemployment or financial hardship. The organisation also helps those with a disability, families and pensioners to put food on their tables.
Razvana Parvez works for Aberdeen Standards Investments and volunteers with World Care Foundation and said it is an eye opener seeing how many people find themselves in food crisis.
Razvana said: “We take pride in helping fellow humans at their time of need. A simple box of food along with knowing someone cares makes a big difference. Those who receive food parcels not only benefit from food but the warm and caring company of volunteers.
“We are very grateful for the donation received from Aberdeen Standard Investments. These funds will help us to deliver an equivalent of 6,848 bags of 2kg rice or provide 2,895 chicken vouchers.
”World Care Foundation provides emergency food and basis essentials for those in crisis situations and relies entirely on donations which come in the shape of tins, packets and jars and other foodstuffs from individuals, businesses, volunteers and food outlets, as well as financial donations like the one from Aberdeen Standard Investments Charitable Foundation. Its foodbank project operates on a structured referral system through partner agencies, including GPs, social services, police and other bodies. It also offers a self-referral service, so others don’t fall through the loop while awaiting referral or if they face an emergency.”

This charity’s aid has direct impact on alleviating suffering and reducing poverty in the local community. In addition, it ensures those with children or from disadvantaged backgrounds are not going without food.
”Aberdeen Standard Investments has worked with charities seeking to end food hunger and food waste operating elsewhere, including in London and Aberdeen, through its Charitable Foundation, not only giving financial donations but through food donations and employees volunteering their time to support these services.”
